Kadina Brook targeted in local clean-up efforts

More than a dozen local residents from Bushmead volunteered their time this weekend for a bush clean-up as part of the 2018 Keep Australia Beautiful Week.

The Keep Australia Beautiful Week theme for 2018 is 'Keep Our Waterways Beautiful', so volunteers focused their efforts on the bushland on the banks of Kadina Brook.

Cedar Woods State Manager Ben Rosser said the group put in an incredible effort, collecting more than 30 bags of rubbish in just over an hour.

“The main waste offenders were soft plastic and food packaging, with a whipper snipper and rusted shovel embedded in the Brook amongst the more peculiar items found,” Mr Rosser said.

“At Cedar Woods we take a lot of pride in helping our communities run events like this. 

“Saturday’s clean up was driven by residents after they told us the top three most important things that made a great community were enjoying and valuing the natural environment, and feeling connected to the community.

“We’re really proud at Cedar Woods to support these efforts and those who participated received a traditional morning tea of tea, coffee, fruit and scones.”

Around 10 hectares of bushland was covered in the clean up – around 5% of the total Conservation Area at Bushmead.
