Cedar Woods to develop social housing in Noble Park
Cedar Woods will partner with a community housing provider and the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments to deliver much needed community housing in Noble Park, Victoria. The 2,211m2 site on Douglas St will be developed into a five-level residential apartment building with 97 apartments and 6 ground floor retail tenancies.
HousingFirst, a not-for-profit organisation providing community housing to over 2,500 people across Melbourne, has received funding from both the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments to acquire the building and manage the tenancies. The Commonwealth funding is through the first round of the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility and the National Housing Accord Facility while the Victorian funding is through the Social Housing Growth Fund as part of the Big Housing Build.
The shovel-ready, 100% community housing project will soon be under construction, with settlement and first residents expected to move into the complex in late 2026. Cedar Woods has appointed Balmain & Co. for the construction of the project.
Cedar Woods’ Managing Director, Nathan Blackburne, said this project will contribute to the provision of much needed safe, secure and affordable community housing in the area.
“We are delighted to be developing the Douglas Apartments project for HousingFirst. This project will provide quality, sustainable and modern living in well-designed housing that will support the lifestyle and livelihoods of future residents.
“The project supports Cedar Woods’ vision of creating a brighter future and building stronger communities that integrate with established neighbourhoods.”
“Cedar Woods boasts significant experience developing residential communities, including medium and high-density apartments, townhouses and supporting retail and commercial developments in vibrant inner-city neighbourhoods.”
The site is well positioned, adjacent to the Noble Park train station for ease of access to public transport and opposite established retail and amenity. Future residents will enjoy easy access to education and employment opportunities with Monash University in close proximity and Monash National Employment and Innovation Cluster (MNEIC) within easy reach, which currently supports approximately 75,000 jobs.
The Victorian Government has identified Noble Park as a priority revitalisation area and established the Noble Park Revitalisation Board in 2021, which is investing approximately $2 million in initiatives in the area.
