The former Carine TAFE site is located near the intersection of Reid Highway and Marmiom Avenue, 15km north of the Perth CBD. Carine is a well-established suburb, offering excellent amenity including close proximity to schools, shops, public transport, and the beach - as well as being directly adjacent to Star Swamp Bushland Reserve.
The State Government's Directions 2031 policy outlined theprinciples for a future Perth designed to address population growth and economic development with sustainability as a key consideration.
This policy identified a target of 47% of new housing within existing metropolitan areas to ensure growth can be sustained beyond 2031. The former Carine TAFE site was specifically identified as a priority site for higher density housing. The Local Structure Plan for the site illustrated a high quality development addressing the Carine-Hamersley Local Area Plan that strategically identified the site as a key location for aged care and retirement living services within the City of Stirling.
To better understand Carine, local context maps were prepared which highlight the major road network, public transport, pedestrian and cycle path routes, the proximity of commercial shopping centres, and the location of key recreation and bush retention areas. Please view these maps below.
