Public art opportunity for local artists and community groups

March 2018

Residential developer Cedar Woods is calling out for local artists and community groups to create a series of art pieces in their newest estate, Millars Landing, reflecting life’s little moments.

Totems will be the defining feature of the main public open space at Millars Landing where local artists or community groups can create a story through their artwork with a $25,000 budget.

Clustered into sets of three to five, the totems will approximately have a 300mm diameter and will range from 1.5 to 2.3m in height. The totems have the potential to be circular or square and can be painted, carved, clad or even used as signage to tell a story – the opportunities are endless for local artists and community groups.

WA State Manager for Cedar Woods, Ben Rosser, said he encouraged local artists and community groups to submit their expression of interest and was excited to see what ideas and concepts were put forward.

“We’re keen to showcase the skill and artistic flair of the region, marking the launch of the development with interesting art pieces that the community can be proud of for years to come,” Mr Rosser said.

Local artists and community groups are encouraged to be inspired by the themes of; life’s little moments, homing in on local history and how nature complements our life.

“Aligning with our themes, we welcome out of the box ideas to create a visually appealing piece of artwork for our residents and locals to observe and enjoy,” Mr Rosser said.

“Millars Landing has an established colour palette however, splashes of earthy colours are encouraged to add contrast to the estate.”

Expressions of interest will open on Friday 9 March and close 23 March; local artists and community groups can get in touch with Angela Vurens Van Es from Creating Communities who can provide further information; [email protected].

Located 42km south-east from the CBD, Millars Landing will contain beautiful parks, natural bushland reserves, big playgrounds and walking trails - offering the chance to raise a family in a safe, relaxed and rustic environment.
