The Vision
The Mangles Bay Marina Based Tourist Precinct will deliver a quality and innovative development respecting the environment, to provide marine, recreational, commercial and residential opportunities for the local and visiting community. The project will only proceed if environmental approval is granted.

The Background
In 2005, the City of Rockingham initiated studies with a view to creating a marina-based tourist precinct at Mangles Bay.  Demand for boat pens in the area is considered high and there are strong social and economic benefits from an integrated development providing tourism, recreation and low-cost holiday accommodation facilities.

The Mangles Bay project concept development phase (Phase One) included extensive community consultation organised by a steering committee with input from key stakeholders.

In September 2009, the Premier of Western Australia announced that the State Government will take the Mangles Bay Marina-Based Tourist Project to its next phase (Phase Two), the environment assessment.

Phase Two consists of undertaking additional environmental studies as recommended by the Environmental Protection Authority to finalise a concept plan, and taking that final concept through the formal public environmental assessment process.

In April 2010, Western Australian Lands Minister Brendon Grylls and Planning Minister John Day announced Cedar Woods Properties Limited as the nominated development partner to progress the project through to the completion of the Phase Two statutory approvals process, following an EOI submission process and period of review.
